Gunmen Open Fire on AAP Candidate’s Residence in Jandiala Guru Amid Election Tensions

A high-tension firing incident has sparked panic in Jandiala Guru, Amritsar, after four motorcycle-borne gunmen targeted the home of AAP Municipal Council candidate Surinder Singh Sonu. Amid intense election preparations, the assailants fired 12 rounds at the residence. Police have launched a CCTV-based investigation into this targeted political violence and intimidation.

Fear has gripped the Jandiala Guru region of Amritsar following a brazen midnight firing incident targeting the residence of a local political figure. According to reports, a group of unidentified youths descended upon the house late last night, unleashing a hail of approximately 10 to 12 rounds of bullets. The gunfire struck the main gates of the property directly, narrowly averting a major tragedy.

This violent assault occurs against a backdrop of escalating tension as preparations for the Municipal Council elections reach a fever pitch in the area. Sources indicate that the target of the attack, Surinder Singh Sonu—who is contesting the Municipal Councilor seat on behalf of the Aam Aadmi Party—had been receiving persistent threats. Sonu stated that he was initially warned via phone calls to withdraw from the election race. This intimidation escalated when his vehicle was previously targeted, an incident that had prompted the police to provide him with official security cover.

Law enforcement agencies reached the site immediately upon receiving information and have launched a comprehensive investigation. Police are currently scouring CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. DSP Ravinder Pal Singh, addressing the media, confirmed that around midnight, four motorcycle-borne youths arrived at Surinder Kumar’s residence and opened fire indiscriminately. A total of nine bullets struck the two main gates, while several rounds were discharged into the air before the assailants fled the scene.

The targeted nature of the attack, occurring in the heat of a political campaign, has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising serious concerns regarding the safety of candidates. As the police intensify their probe into the identities of the four motorcyclists, the incident highlights a volatile atmosphere where democratic processes are being met with criminal intimidation and gunfire.
